ZEN SINGING
My story
My name is Gudrun Roos, founder of Zing je Zen.
As a child, I grew up in a large, poor, and noisy family. Being quiet by nature, I found a safe place in music at an early age. Singing was my refuge and my strength: it brought me peace, connection, and helped me to find my place in my own world.
At the age of six, I joined a children's choir and took music and dance lessons.
I studied word art and drama at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven. During my higher education, I chose to study jazz singing at the KASK conservatory in Ghent.
In the years after my studies, I gained valuable stage experience: as an actress in theater plays, as a backing vocalist for music groups, and I sang with my own music projects and various bands. From jazz, blues, and chanson to rock and dance music.
However, singing was not always carefree. Fear of failure and performance pressure inhibited my growth.
That inner struggle led me on the path of self-exploration and therapy. I immersed myself in yoga, mindfulness, meditation, and relaxation therapy.
Travel, nature, and other cultures inspired me and taught me to find joy again.
During that period, I also discovered the healing power of sound. I trained as a sound healing therapist and voice liberation coach. I learned to trust my intuition again and discovered how valuable it is to live and sing from a place of authenticity.
In 2019, my life suddenly came to a halt due to a hereditary kidney disease. Hemodialysis brought physical exhaustion, but also a deep inner search. My knowledge of relaxation, breathwork, and voice therapy helped me find peace and keep my mind clear.
Since a successful kidney transplant and the birth of my daughter, I consciously choose gentleness, simplicity, and presence.
I have been shaping my work under the name Zing je Zen since 2023. Here, I coach people in (re)discovering their own unique voice through voice liberation, relaxation therapy, and body-oriented techniques such as Feldenkrais and Alexander Technique.
My approach goes deeper than just singing: I love to create a safe space where people can release tension, feel their emotions, and let their voice sound as it is in that moment.
I believe that when someone dares to truly let their voice be heard, there is room for personal transformation.
